The Department of Physics was established in 1996 along with the founding of the National University, separating from the Department of Mathematics and Physics of the former Vientiane Teacher Training University, in order to meet the demands of the strategic policies of the Party and the Government, based on the strategic and educational development plans of the Ministry of Education and Sports in developing scientific personnel to serve the country's socio-economic development. The Department of Physics is a department that has developed scientific personnel, particularly physicists, and experts in materials science, geophysics, and nuclear physics to meet the national socio-economic development; producing and developing students to become science students, high-quality professionals who possess knowledge, capability, revolutionary moral virtues, discipline, creativity, pure honesty, patriotism, and love for their career, capable of conducting scientific research and making students accepted by society both domestically and internationally.
